I created this series of paintings for a group show titled ‘Abundance’. This is the artist statement that accompanied the paintings:
I love painting animals. The array of colours, textures and patterns provides an endless supply of inspiration.
But is it an endless supply?
Whilst there is an abundance of diversity on this planet, it is also the human race’s perpetual desire for abundance that is pushing thousands of species to the brink of extinction.
This series of figurative paintings is titled ‘Inaction’, from a ‘Faithless’ song lyric “…inaction is a weapon of mass destruction…”
Each painting features an animal threatened as a result of our inaction. We need to change. I hope my work shows the amazing beauty inherent in our natural world whilst conveying a message in their eyes that they cannot communicate themselves.
